IN COMPÉTITION

Concurrent n°1
► Anthesis

Anthesis is the botanical term that refers to the period during which a flower is fully open and functional.
This natural process favors pollination which is an essential ecological survival function. Without pollinators, the human race and all of earth’s terrestrial ecosystems would not survive. Besides adding color, texture, and biodiversity to gardens and ecosystems, flowers are botanically important structures.
The blossoming of flowers leads us to remember the cycle of life and the importance of nature and also gives us an aesthetic spectacle of vibrant colours and shapes that we can enjoy every year.

► Place à la déesse !

In this show, the Théâtre du Nord is transformed into a nightmarish machine generating dust and smoke. Its activity makes a mountain called a slag heap grow, a vestige of the industrial era. Several slag heaps are formed, then abandoned. The seasons pass, and become part of the landscape, but what is unsuspected is the nature that comes to settle on the dark earth. Plants grow, become trees. Little by little, the landscape is healed and regenerated.

Concurrent n°3
► Improvision délicate

A delicate journey into beauty through the movement of a multitude of ornaments. A sensory experience close to infinity, immersing the spectator in contemplation and listening on a grand scale.

Sound creation: Yohan Dumas

Concurrent n°4
► STAY ALIVE

Black or White.
Dark or Bright.
Gloomy or Lively.
Certainty is uncertainty.
It is the nature of life.
No matter today is a good day or a bad day, simply make the best out of it everyday.

Direction: Decide Kit (Thailand)

Concurrent n°5
► Threshold Consciousness

Threshold Consciousness is an audiovisual work that revolves around hypnagogia, the transitional state from wakefulness to sleep. As a digital collage combined with 2D animation and generative code-based visuals, the general mood and flow of the work are calming and slowly evolving. This hypnotic narrative invites the viewer to sink into a deep meditative state.

Concurrent n°6
► Paper Games

Inspired by the different elements that conform the history of the building, and the charm and magic that surrounds the Théâtre du Nord as a meeting point and event location, this mapping puts pieces of paper together to create a narrative that both remains true to the context of the place – that it’s more than just only architecture -, and also aims to surprise the audience with a series of games that all end in unexpected ways.

Direction: Azura de la Fuente & Lenia Friedrich (Allemagne)

Concurrent n°7
► Frames of Humanity

Frames of Humanity is based on the combination and fusion between gender and people, a worldwide network of flows that originates from a single place and unifies different ethnic and cultural groups, becoming indistinguishable. Each single fragment becomes part of a single concept, that of humanity. Different shades and different identities are facets of a single sense, that of being. People belong to a same and unique strain, the human root that lives and perpetuates thanks to the relationship with the others. Through technology and new media, humanity experiences a new sense of connection with the other and with its genesis and origin, its physical evolution in space and cultural evolution over time. Digital era allows even more strongly to break down boundaries, to approach, flattening inequalities. The wall becomes a display that shows humanity always on the move: eyes, hands and mouths of people with different identities, renowned works of art which are nothing but sculptures of individuals, bodies that remain so over time through history and eras.

Direction: Sophie Garcia, Pierre Jaucot, Julien De-Mey (Belgium)
